Information on Township Financial Assistance
There are two categories of township financial assistance which are available to the residents of Normal Township.
General Assistance
General Assistance is monthly assistance. Usually, this type of financial assistance is available to individuals who do not have minor children living with them. In rare cases, a couple or a family may be eligible for this type of assistance. The grant level is dependent upon the number in the family who are seeking assistance.
The payment level is determined by the Township Board of Trustees. The full grant amount for a month is $225.00 for a single person, which is the grant payment recommended by the Township Officials of Illinois Organization.
Recipients of General Assistance are expected to find employment, unless they have a medical excuse as to why the applicant can't work. The Township GA office assigns "job searches" for the recipients of financial assistance.
Emergency Assistance
The second type of township assistance is Emergency Assistance which is available when a family with minor children has a shut-off notice for electricity, gas, or water or has an eviction notice.
To be eligible for Emergency Assistance, the total income for the past 15 days and the upcoming 15 days is budgeted. The income level is determined from the 75% of poverty level.
A recipient of Emergency Assistance cannot receive monetary assistance on any one utility or for rent more than once in a twelve month period. The amounts that Normal Township will pay for Emergency Assistance are as follows:
- Rent - $350.00
- Electricity and/or Natural gas - $200.00
- Water - $75.00.
If an applicant is receiving categorical assistance such as TANF from the Department of Human Services, SSDA or SSI, he/she is not eligible for monetary assistance from Normal Township.
